Blockhead, an instrumental hip-hop producer with a unique career Blockhead, whose real name is Tony Simon, was born on October 8, 1976, in downtown Manhattan. During his studies at Boston University, he met rapper Aesop Rock, a decisive encounter for his career, and abandoned rap to devote himself fully to music production. His style is based on extensive sampling, atmospheric melodic compositions and inventive sound collages. A figure in American underground instrumental hip-hop, Blockhead has collaborated with artists including Billy Woods, Murs and Open Mike Eagle. His most iconic collaboration with Aesop Rock notably gave rise to the album Garbology (2021), acclaimed by critics.
