Symphonic concert. STORMS AND PASSION Symphonic concert Richard Strauss was 25 when he finished Don Juan. Its orchestral splendor indicates that he identified with the hero. Unlike Strauss, Richard Wagner did not achieve success with Tannhäuser. The Parisian audience booed him, but Baudelaire showered him with praise. On the boo-meter, Gustav Mahler took the prize at the premiere of his Symphony No. 1. With its funeral march based on “Frère Jacques,” it has become one of the audience’s favorites. RICHARD STRAUSS Don Juan, symphonic poem, Op. 20 RICHARD WAGNER Overture to Tannhäuser GUSTAV MAHLER Symphony No. 1 in D major, known as “Titan” Musical direction: Michele SPOTTI
