Journées Européennes du Patrimoine au Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Marseille (MHNM)

Visit the Marseille Natural History Museum as part of the European Heritage Days. For their 43rd edition, the European Heritage Days will take place on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026, on the theme “Photographic Heritage.” ˃ Collections and “Terre d'Évolution” exhibition Located in the exceptional setting of Palais Longchamp, the Marseille Natural History Museum is a bicentenary institution of major heritage, scientific and cultural importance. Designated a Musée de France, this essential vehicle for sharing knowledge stands out for the quality of its natural history collections (more than 600,000 botanical, zoological and paleontological specimens, fewer than 1% of which are on display). With a permanent “Terre d’évolution” exhibition completely redesigned in 2020, the Museum offers visitors a resolutely contemporary view of its collections, our planet, living things and their evolution. ˃ “GLACIERS,” mini-exhibition A new “In the News” section in the permanent Terre d'Évolution route, the “GLACIERS” mini-exhibition offers an opportunity to examine a topical issue: climate change and melting ice. Indeed, glaciers, sea ice and ice sheets contain nearly 75% of our planet’s freshwater resources. In today’s world, glaciers have a special place in matters of climate, biodiversity, research, water resources and tourism. Topics covered include Greenland, an island unlike any other; the Alps and their local human history; and Antarctica, the largest desert on Earth. Part of the UN program, the 2025 International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, and the AMIDEX program of Aix-Marseille University. Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last admission at 5:30 p.m.) ˃ Palais Longchamp Festival Marcel Longchamp Under the theme “Il vogue,” the City of Marseille’s 4th and 5th arrondissements, in partnership with Le Château de Servières, is once again presenting a selection of contemporary artworks and performances in Marseille’s Palais Longchamp Park, at the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Natural History Museum. Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
