European Heritage Days at AD13 Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026  Everyone to the Archives! Guided tours of the “behind the scenes” (exceptionally open to the public)  Tour departures at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; duration: 1 hour 15 minutes, “Arch-special” tours for the ABD’s 20th anniversary: Commented tours for adult visitors at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., duration: 1 hour 15 minutes, all audiences aged 11 and over, no advance registration required. “Archivists in training” activity on the ABD forecourt Younger visitors are invited to play on the ABD forecourt. They will discover the archives through puzzles, quizzes, word searches and code-breaking games. They can also try their hand at calligraphy with a reed pen, writing the ancient and mysterious scripts embedded in the forecourt. From 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., children aged 5 and over accompanied by an adult “The fabulous destiny of Zarafa the giraffe in Provence”: investigate with an archivist At 11:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., duration: 1 hour, for adult visitors (children aged 12 and over admitted), no advance registration required. “Archivists’ favourites”: For the ABD’s 20th anniversary, an exclusive presentation of “favourite” documents selected by the staff of the departmental archives. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., all audiences, free access. The Archives: people, missions and professions From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., all audiences, in the reading room, no advance registration required. Especially for the 20th anniversary, you will learn everything about the missions of the Archives and how they are carried out by meeting the men and women who contribute to their collection, classification, preservation and communication. Introduction to archival research, discovery of contemporary archives and electronic archiving, understanding how archives are preserved Bookbinding demonstration by the “Au livre ouvert” workshop, Saturday only Genealogy introduction workshop by the Centre Généalogique du Midi-Provence, Sunday afternoon only.
