From prehistoric times, humans sought to depict the nature around them through drawing, particularly the animals they hunted. Later, thanks to the invention of printing in the 15th century, the rise of the book greatly influenced the development of science, with a return to observation from nature during the Renaissance and the necessary transcription of those observations onto paper. The evolution of engraving techniques (woodcut, wood engraving, copperplate engraving, lithography, etc.) enabled the development and improvement of naturalistic representation (geology, mycology, flora and fauna), supporting scientific research through the quality of its imagery. This imagery eventually came to stand at the interface between science and art, which is what we wish to show through this exhibition. This exhibition, presented in the bastide at the heart of Parc Bortoli, will be accompanied by 9 posters created by Jean-Yves Meunier, an ecologist and entomologist with the IRD and also a member of the Société linnéenne de Provence, in partnership with the Société d'horticulture et d'arboriculture des Bouches du Rhône.
