The story revolves around the cruel Count Philippe d’Anjou, impatient to meet Luisa, a young bride he commissioned without ever having seen her. However, Luisa does not want this forced marriage, because her heart belongs to another: Lisandro, an Italian actor who sets off to find her and help her escape. He is accompanied by his faithful troupe companion, Tronfio. Together, Lisandro and Tronfio will try to save Luisa, but they will have to face the count and his servant Pantino, who obeys his master unquestioningly, despite the latter’s cruelty, beating him whenever he feels like it. To have any hope of deceiving the count, the two actors and the young woman will have to call upon the magic of theater and the ruse of disguise. But will they succeed in thwarting the count’s plans? Will love prevail, or will money and power ultimately win? To what extent can a determined woman change her destiny? Luisa, convinced that she must obey, may discover, through the power of theater, that freedom can be within reach.
