Le marin, la montre et l'observatoire : Une histoire méconnue de l'observatoire de la Marine de Marseille

The ANDROMEDE Association presents a talk by Olivier Sauzereau, writer, PhD in the history of science and technology from Nantes Université, and astrophotographer. Like a police investigation, the result of nearly twenty-five years of research in archives, Olivier Sauzereau takes us on a fascinating maritime and astronomical journey through France’s main maritime ports, and particularly Marseille. It is a story that brings together long-distance maritime adventure, some of the greatest scholars of the 18th and 19th centuries, the “behind-the-scenes workers of science” with their astonishing life paths, the great clockmakers, and the beauty of astronomical nights. This talk will explain the role of the Marseille Naval Observatory in the national and international context, presented by Olivier Sauzereau, writer, PhD in the history of science and technology from Nantes Université, and astrophotographer. It will take place at the Marseille Historical Observatory (entrance: Allée Jean-Louis Pons, 4th arrondissement).
