For its 43rd edition, Heritage Days will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, with the themes "Photography Heritage" and "Heritage in Peril: Revive, Resist, Reimagine". At the museum: guided tours, workshops, exhibitions, ... will be on offer. All events are free. Permanent exhibition The museum is organized around three spaces: the Mexico Room, entirely devoted to the presentation of Mexican folk art; the Africa Room, which presents a collection of around one hundred objects, mainly masks and statues; and the Oceania and Americas Room, which notably houses a sensitive collection of ancestral human remains. Like many ethnographic and non-European art museums around the world, MAAOA is undertaking a profound reflection on the history of its collections and its future. Guided tour "Rethinking MAAOA" In light of a new phase of transformation that ethnographic, extra-European art and society museums have been undergoing around the world for some twenty years, the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts is undertaking a profound reflection on its future. Benoît Martin, the museum's director, invites you to learn about the approach and exchange ideas. Creators, users or collectors, women’s presence and absence within the museum will be highlighted during this tour. Saturday 19 September at 2:30 p.m. Sunday 20 September at 11 a.m. Duration: 1 hr Ages 6 and up Booking by email: maaoa@marseille.fr, subject to availability Tour and workshop "Masks and Representations of Women" - Young audiences Discover the masks representing women in our collections! Then create your own paper mask, inspired by these masks. Saturday 19 September from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Ages 6 and up Booking required: maaoa@marseille.fr Tour-workshop "In the Shoes of a Museum Professional" - Young audiences Creating exhibitions, preserving objects, conducting research, explaining things to the public... Become involved in the museum for an afternoon and discover the various professions that bring our collections to life.
