This exhibition at the Alcazar offers an opportunity to (re)discover Lebanon through a rich selection of photographs and old books In partnership with the Institut du monde arabe and the Oriental Library of Saint Joseph University of Beirut, this exhibition at the Alcazar offers an opportunity to (re)discover Lebanon through a rich selection of photographs and old books. The photographs, from Beirut collections, capture moments in everyday life, monuments and landscapes, creating a lasting record of fragile heritage—sometimes disappeared, often at risk and always in danger. The drawn or printed documents preserved in the rare and valuable collections of the City of Marseille share this same desire to preserve a record of Lebanon’s riches. This exhibition is therefore an unprecedented dialogue between the collections of two heritage libraries across the Mediterranean. Opening on Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the presence of the exhibition curators, who will offer a guided tour of the exhibition. As part of La Saison Méditerranée 2026, which highlights the richness and diversity of Mediterranean cultures. It celebrates the artists, creators and young talents of these regions, promoting cultural and human exchange. The libraries of Marseille offer a series of events open to everyone, with a special focus on Lebanon. From 1975 to 1990, Lebanon was involved in a devastating civil war that claimed approximately 200,000 lives. An entire generation of young people fought in the name of different religious denominations. In the aftermath of the war, several of these young militiamen found peace in an unlikely place.
