Tosca de Puccini

Opera is the place for every excess, from the basest to the noblest... Puccini borrows from Victorien Sardou, twenty-seven years his senior, this colorful trio: the flamboyant and terribly jealous woman artist; the artist-painter lover sympathetic to progressive ideas; and the sly, underhanded and lustful yet all-powerful enforcer of a repressive totalitarian regime. Passions that will lead our unfortunate protagonists to the Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, on the banks of the Tiber, a remnant of the mythical Lethe, that sad river of oblivion into which those who lived are swallowed… As the Abbey of Saint-Victor is not a lyric theater, Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca will be presented in an intimate version centered on the three characters involved: Tosca, Mario and Scarpia. The action will retain its fluid plausibility through the presence of a narrator who will provide the link between the various scenes. An opera adapted to the venue without betraying its dramatic intensity. Following the success of Suor Angelica at the 2025 festival, Opera returns to Saint-Victor with a production enhanced by the abbey’s vaulted ceilings.
