Angela Detanico et Rafael Lain : Champ étoilé

With the support of Instituto Guimarães Rosa and the Brazilian Embassy in Paris, in partnership with Galerie Martine Aboucaya. Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain invite us at Frac Sud to walk through a field of stars and immerse ourselves in the mystery of the creation of the universe and celestial bodies. This Franco-Brazilian artist duo has been conducting joint artistic research for more than 20 years into how we represent the world and how it manifests itself to us. To do so, they draw on the creation of alphabets of forms that renew, through a singular linguistic and visual approach, perceptions of our environment, time and space. The exhibition “Starry Field” at Frac Sud takes the form of a large installation extending the project “The Flowering of Light,” conceived as part of the 2024 Prix Marcel Duchamp at the Centre Pompidou. At Frac Sud, the works produced for the prize are redeployed in dialogue with other groups of pieces addressing the stars and the creation of the universe. From a cosmogonic perspective, the exhibition immerses us in fields of stars and flowers connected to the moon and the sun by the passage of light through the ages of creation. We are invited to experience deep time. By connecting science and mythology and evoking the history of the formation of celestial objects and our Earth, their works invite us to marvel and look toward the sky so that we can be more fully present here and now in the world.
