Black Milk: the career of an independent hip-hop pillar Curtis Cross, aka Black Milk, originally from Detroit, established himself in the early 2000s as a leading beatmaker, notably alongside the group Slum Village. His first solo album, Popular Demand (2007), built around striking soul samples, earned him international recognition and laid the foundations of his artistic identity. Over the years, Black Milk has enriched his boom-bap style with an increasingly prominent live instrumentation, incorporating jazz, funk and electronic music into ever more ambitious projects. He notably produced Danny Brown’s track « Really Doe », alongside Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt. His album CEREMONIAL is, to date, the culmination of this approach. Le Molotov, an essential concert venue in Marseille, is located in the lively Cours Julien district. By car from the Vieux-Port, allow approximately 10 minutes via La Canebière. However, beware of narrow streets and heavy evening traffic. The nearest car parks are Parking Indigo Cours Julien (300 m away, or a 5-minute walk) and Parking Jean Jaurès (500 m away, or a 10-minute walk). To come by public transport, the RTM network serves the district perfectly. From Saint-Charles station, take metro line 2 towards Sainte-Marguerite Dromel and get off at Notre-Dame-du-Mont, just a 5-minute walk from Le Molotov. Several RTM bus lines also serve Cours Julien. Note that public transport runs until approximately 9 p.m. on weekdays in Marseille. Our advice: take RTM metro line 2 to Notre-Dame-du-Mont to reach Le Molotov easily, without the parking constraints in this very busy evening district.
