Clichés, Marseille et la Photographie : 200 ans d'histoire commune

“CLICHÉS – Marseille and Photography: 200 Years of Shared History” will take place from May 30 to September 30, 2027, through a series of photographic exhibitions in public spaces retracing two centuries of Marseille’s history since the invention of photography in 1826, along with a cultural program throughout the city. This project, awarded the Photography Bicentenary label by the Ministry of Culture, aims to bring out a deeply human account of the city by highlighting the people who have shaped it over time. This photographic narrative draws in particular on institutional image archives and public/private collections. From 2026, a major collection of old family photographs will be organized among the people of Marseille. This collection will be showcased during the event at the Centre de la Vieille Charité, the History Museum and the Municipal Archives. In summer 2027, photography will take center stage throughout Marseille, with several photo studios, street photographers on La Canebière, photographic history walks and a collection of photographic postcards paying tribute to Dominique Piazza, its inventor and a native of Marseille.
