Visit the Musée d’Art Contemporain [mac] to discover Erwin Wurm’s “One Minute Sculptures”. Since 1996, Austrian artist Erwin Wurm has been developing the interactive concept of the “One Minute Sculptures”. On a plinth holding everyday objects such as sweaters, sponges, buckets and balls, visitors are invited to use them in unusual ways, according to instructions drawn by the artist. They thus become an ephemeral sculpture for the duration of a pose. Demonstration of Franz Erhard Walther’s 1.Werksatz 1.Werksatz [1.Set] is an installation by German artist Franz Erhard Walther, consisting of 58 objects made from various materials, such as straw, metal, wood and everyday objects, and packed in cotton canvas cases. The work can exist in three presentation modes: packed, partially deployed or activated. During public “demonstrations,” the objects are activated according to a specific protocol predetermined by the artist based on the materials and titles: “walk around sheltered in the bag,” “lie side by side in a group of six,” “walk barefoot on the kind of mattress,” and so on. The objects are activated by the museum’s mediation teams as part of “demonstrations” scheduled following individual visits.
