Dubout, l’art de tout dessiner
A monumental graphic œuvre. The exhibition Dubout, the Art of Drawing Everything pays tribute to one of the greatest French illustrators of the 20th century, who was born in Marseille, on the 50th anniversary of his death. Albert Dubout (1905–1976), a master of line and satirical observation, shaped more than fifty years of artistic life through a prolific, inventive body of work of exceptional scope. He is one of the few artists to have explored, with such talent, every form of graphic expression: press cartoons, illustration, painting, posters, cinema, advertising and animation, in France and internationally. Dubout worked with more than 250 newspapers and magazines, reaching an estimated readership of 5 billion people. His press cartoons, often featured on covers, circulated throughout the world. At the same time, he published more than 140 albums, translated and distributed internationally, some with print runs of more than one million copies. An exceptional illustrator, he brought 67 great classics of French literature to life in images, from Villon to Molière and from Voltaire to Balzac, as well as Marcel Pagnol. He also created 86 posters, particularly for cinema, animated films, two movies, animated window displays for Galeries Lafayette, advertising campaigns and theater sets. Few artists have demonstrated such diversity of expression. As part of this exhibition theme, Musée Regards de Provence is organizing a series of meetings with Didier Dubout, talks, creative workshops with guided tours adapted for younger visitors and school groups, watercolor workshops, yoga classes among the artworks and art therapy. These events dedicated to exchange, passing on knowledge and sharing offer rich, sensitive and convivial opportunities to hear personal accounts, be carried away by creativity and draw inspiration from the works. April 2, 3, 4, 5 and 18, May 2 and 23, and September 12 at 3 p.m.: meeting, guided tour and book signing with Didier Dubout: “Journey into the World of Albert Dubout.” Tours are free with payment of a full-price exhibition admission fee.
