Eyehategod: a founding pillar of sludge metal Formed in New Orleans in 1988 by guitarist Jimmy Bower and drummer Joey LaCaze, soon joined by singer Mike IX Williams, Eyehategod developed a unique sound combining doom metal, hardcore punk and abrasive blues. The band is now recognized internationally as one of the founding and most influential sludge metal groups. Their first album, In the Name of Suffering (1992), laid the foundations for a dark and disorienting discography. Take as Needed for Pain (1993) was ranked the number-one sludge album by Terrorizer magazine and appears at number 92 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.” Their latest studio album, A History of Nomadic Behavior (2021), confirms their ability to continue evolving. How to get to Le Molotov in Marseille? Le Molotov concert venue is easily accessible from central Marseille. By metro, take line 2 of the RTM network from Saint-Charles station toward Sainte-Marguerite Dromel and get off at Notre-Dame-du-Mont, just a 5-minute walk from the venue. Several RTM bus lines also serve the Cours Julien neighborhood. Note that public transport runs until around 9 p.m. on weekdays, with extended hours at weekends. By car, reach the Cours Julien neighborhood via La Canebière from Marseille’s main roads. The journey from the Vieux-Port takes around 10 minutes. Beware of narrow streets and heavy evening traffic.
