The clown Arletti embarks on a delightfully unconventional account of the birth of the world and humanity. Arletti is wandering near a university when she comes across a professor dozing beneath a tree. Seizing the teacher’s briefcase, she takes his place in the lecture hall to give a talk on Genesis. Facing the audience, she improvises with the stolen notes for help. She tries to find the right gestures and discuss the origins of humanity. But suddenly, a problem arises. Arletti loses her way, pulls herself together and finally offers a version of the biblical story that is as personal as it is unexpected. On tour for thirty years, this cult clown solo, performed by the brilliant Catherine Germain, is a poetic gem. On stage, objects seem to rebel against the strange lecturer in hilarious disorder. A notebook, tape, a cigarette and a water carafe become excuses for a series of comical situations. The virtuosity of the gestures is matched by writing that is both burlesque and subtle, moving as much as it makes children and adults laugh.
