Mi madre y el dinero
What remains of a family when everything becomes work? On a stage transformed into a shop, a home and a living archive, a mother and her son reenact the gestures that have kept them standing. Cutting, selling, counting, negotiating… Repeated actions, endlessly performed, survival rituals through which work spills into the intimate sphere until it shapes it. For more than sixty years, Josefina Orlaineta struggled with the precarious economy of Campeche, a city and state in southeastern Mexico, located on the Yucatán Peninsula, accumulating various jobs and strategies in order to ward off the inevitable collapse to which she and her son had been destined from birth. Drawing on this fragmented memory, Anacarsis Ramos creates a porous documentary theater in which fiction seeps into reality. Bodies become archives, objects become partners, and the stage becomes a space for fragile repair. Between tenderness and violence, distance and attempts at reconciliation, Mi madre y el dinero explores what money does to relationships, how it infiltrates emotions and organizes silences. What remains of a family when everything becomes work? Can the past be replayed in order to shift its burden? In this economy of memory, theater becomes a place of sensitive negotiation, a space where people can learn to love one another differently. With Josefina Orlaineta, Anacarsis Ramos Conference Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. As part of Allez savoir, the 7th edition of the EHESS festival entitled “Money, that is to say?” Anacarsis Ramos and researcher Marta Espinosa Berrocal (EHESS) examine the links between money, creative passion and precarity.
