French-Algerian filmmaker and visual artist Hassen Ferhani takes over three towers of Château d’If with works exploring isolation, the horizon and the monument’s prison history. French-Algerian filmmaker and visual artist Hassen Ferhani explores the notions of isolation and the horizon, drawing inspiration from the geographical situation of Château d’If, an island site between two shores of the Mediterranean, and from its history, particularly its prison history. Three towers of the Château will be occupied by several works, including the installation 143, rue du Désert from the Cnap collections. A new work, My Most Beautiful Fixed Shot, will be produced specifically for the occasion. This new site-specific creation will transform the space of the Saint-Christophe Tower into a small “cinema,” where visitors will be invited to sit facing the windows open onto the Mediterranean and the fixed shots they offer, captured within a soundtrack in French and Arabic combining stories, sounds, songs and anecdotes collected between the two shores.
