With Ronja, music and theater come together in a vibrant fresco. Julie Sicard of the Comédie-Française and Sanseverino embody the voices of the story, surrounded by the combined energies of the Journal Intime and Jokers ensembles, conducted by Vincent Peirani. As part of the Tous en Sons! festival, Marseille Jazz des cinq continents is particularly pleased to present a co-production born from its close relationship with our colleagues at the prestigious Jazz à Vienne festival. Every summer, Jazz à Vienne raises the curtain on a show for local primary school pupils, who fill the seats of the ancient theater to attend a creation imagined especially for the festival’s opening. In 2026, Vincent Peirani was invited to imagine a show worthy of the occasion. A virtuoso artist of exceptional sensitivity, Vincent is also open to repertoires and narratives from around the world. Every regular attendee of Jazz des cinq continents remembers the unique concert at Théâtre Silvain, Le Tour du monde avec Vincent Peirani, in 2019. For this challenge, the accordionist summons a character dear to all of Scandinavia. Ronya, fille de brigands is a novel by Astrid Lindgren that every child there knows. This tale, rich in adventure and emotion, tells the story of Ronja, a fearless girl born in the heart of a robbers’ fortress, which is split in two by a storm on the night of her birth. Ronja grows up amid the outlaws’ laughter and the mysteries of the Scandinavian forest. She befriends Birk, the son of the rival clan. Their friendship brings old grudges to the surface, reignites past hatred and draws them into an adventure in which they must choose between family loyalty and the quest for freedom. Two choirs, children and adults, give substance to the forest, its creatures and the brigands. Through this creation, the aim is to introduce young audiences to jazz music and give artists the opportunity to pass on a shared cultural heritage. Teaching, sharing, passing on, understanding, feeling and raising awareness are the goals of this original and ambitious project for children.
