Come to ciné[mac] for a series of continuous screenings as part of the exhibition “Climate Life. Sensitive Stories from Private Collections – Triennale De leur temps #8”. The exhibition continues throughout all the museum spaces, making the locations resonate and extending the visitor experience. ► Rayane Mcirdi, Après le soleil, 2024 Running time: 25 min With Bellamine Abdelmalek, Sonia Faidi, Flore Hamidani, Romane Oukhemanou Ronan Grossiat Collection. Courtesy of Galerie Anne Barrault, France Rayane Mcirdi retraces a family’s journey in the 1980s, leaving Asnières-sur-Seine for Marseille and boarding a ship to Algeria. Filmed mainly from inside the car, the film captures a particular period, made up of laughter, waiting, arguments, memories and silences. The road movie becomes an intimate space where nostalgia, doubts and promises mingle, summed up by the sentence that gives the film its name: “Algeria is somewhere, behind the sea, after the sun.” Carried by Lydia’s voice-over, the story is told from the perspective of a teenage girl on the threshold of adulthood. Through editing that plays with ellipses and photographic collages, Rayane Mcirdi reconstructs a fragmented memory. ► Paul Heintz, Nafura, 2023 Running time: 28 min O.V.: Arabic. In Nafura (2023), Paul Heintz portrays the friendships of young Saudi women who spend their nights inside the air-conditioned cabin of a car. With humor, they talk about their bodies and their exhausted feelings as they travel through the energy infrastructure supplying the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), which they will soon shut down. The car journey becomes an in-between space where fiction gives way to an alternative narrative. Through their conversations, an awareness emerges of the prohibitions and power structures within their realities—young women constrained between the private and public spheres. ► Bertille Bak, Faire le mur, 2000 DV video, 4:3, stereo Running time: 17 min Produced by Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Tourcoing Renato Casciani Collection Bertille Bak focuses on the working-class culture of the inhabitants of the village of Barlin. Faire le mur was made in this former mining town in the Pas-de-Calais region, where part of her family history is rooted. The film took shape after the announcement that around one hundred red-brick houses would be renovated, inevitably leading to higher rents and, consequently, the departure of many tenants. By subverting the conventions of documentary film and rejecting any miserabilist cliché, Bertille Bak works with the residents to invent an indirect way of telling a moment in this community’s life. ► Valentin Noujaïm, Les Filles Destinées, 2021 Color video with sound Running time: 28 min Produced by Iliade&films and Kometa Films. A mysterious purple meteorite falls from the sky and causes Crystal to disappear. Eden then sets out to find her. The discovery of a queer parallel world makes them question themselves: should one be visible in shared spaces, or instead reclaim their codes in order to imagine a new world? The artist invites us to rethink our relationship with the world and with otherness. What place can one take when marginalized? How can one assert oneself amid uncertainty?
