Sophia Liu, piano At 17, Sophia Liu's transcendent playing and flawless technique eclipse almost everyone else. Above all, however, she possesses a palette of colors, musical taste and freshness that give her interpretations a rare charm. Born in Shanghai, she was still in diapers when she went to live in Japan. At four, she was put at the piano, and at five she won her first competition. Three years later, the family moved to Canada. Sophia Liu studies with master Dang Thai Son, First Prize winner of the Chopin Competition in 1980 and also a teacher of Bruce Liu and Eric Lu, the two most recent winners of the famous competition. She has won a multitude of international prizes in Japan, China, Europe and the United States.
