Like Marseille-born Régine Crespin, Véronique Gens delights in and enchants us with the light and delicate repertoire of the “Mozart of the Champs-Élysées.” Véronique Gens, soprano Federico Tibone, conductor Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra Her moving tone and proven technique worked wonders in Baroque music. After an unforgettable Elvire at the Festival d’Aix with Abbado, Véronique Gens took on Mozart’s heroines in the world’s great theatres. Then her voice expanded and she took on tragic characters. Her love of great texts also opened the door to the treasures of sensitivity found in French mélodie. She has just recorded an album devoted entirely to arias by Jacques Offenbach, some of them previously unpublished. PROGRAMME OFFENBACH Arias and symphonic excerpts from La belle Hélène La Périchole La Duchesse de Gerolstein La Vie parisienne Robinson Crusoé Le Voyage dans la lune Les Contes d’Hoffmann La Gaîté parisienne
