What we talk about when we talk about skateboarding ou comment je suis devenu danseur

This slightly autobiographical show tells the story of a teenage skateboarder who became a dancer. On his board, with the same determination he had 20 years ago, Benoit Canteteau summons the teenager he once was onto a stage transformed into a skatepark, recounting the story of a generation. A skateboarding enthusiast in his adolescence, Benoit Canteteau strings together tricks on his board, recreating the determination and exhilaration of hours spent at the skatepark. He takes up the codes of the teenager he was and the dose of perseverance required to keep starting over after falling. Traces of this practice have been imprinted on his dance. He turns falling into movement and accepts the inertia of a body thrown haphazardly onto the ground. Skateboarding taught him balance, his relationship to space and the notion of distance. For the artist, learning to skateboard is also the path to building himself as a person. In life as in a skatepark, this quote from Samuel Beckett accompanies him: “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” He weaves a love story with trying and with the spirit of challenge. He recalls that ultimate and fleeting satisfaction when a trick works!
