Across a period

About this event

The 39th Les Instants Vidéo Festival brings together 97 artists and 71 works of art from 27 countries. The festival is dedicated to video art and electronic poetry (single-channel works, installations, performances, etc.). We believe that a festival, like an artist, cannot remain detached from the world. It is part of it. It is shaped by it. It carries its contradictions, violence and hopes. Our responsibility is great today, in a world that simplifies and blurs our view, designates enemies and destroys spaces for discussion. Once again this year, we wanted the festival to take different forms and inhabit several spaces.

Opening the festival in two temporary community galleries, with ADPEI and Espoir Provence, means seeking another form of social proximity, bringing art into places where it is not always expected, and turning encounters with artworks into encounters with others. At Friche la Belle de Mai, we are offering four days of immersion featuring screenings, electronic poetry and performances, in this welcoming and hospitable setting that is so dear to us. We wanted to entrust the opening of these encounters to the /si:n/ video art biennial, to show and hear a living, resilient Palestine that stands tall. A collective Mediterranean exhibition will invite us to recognize, behind every image, a human, political and irreducible presence: What We See Looks at Us. Then, for its final stop in Marseille, the festival will move into the home of our friends at Vidéodrome 2, because we love this neighborhood cinema, which practices pay-what-you-can pricing and defends everyday access to cinema through a demanding and diverse program. And because images disregard borders, the works will continue their journey in Algeria, Italy, Iran, Morocco and Palestine.
