CineHorizontes — Prélude argentin

Guillermo Francella appears twice on the bill on the same evening: Homo Argentum as a preview screening and Playa de Lobos, previously unreleased in France. Between the two films, a free Argentine tango performance. The prelude to the 25th edition of CineHorizontes, at Le Prado cinema.

Even when everything seems to be going wrong, there is one thing we cannot do without: laughter. Argentinians know particularly well how to laugh. To open the festivities of its 25th edition, CineHorizontes presents two irresistible comedies starring the great Guillermo Francella, Argentine cinema’s biggest comic star.

5:15 p.m. — HOMO ARGENTUM, by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat. Argentina, 2025, 1 hr 38 min, French-subtitled original version. Preview screening. Sixteen stories, sixteen characters, all played by Guillermo Francella. A searing satire of Argentine foibles, a dizzying acting performance directed by the most renowned filmmaking duo in Latin American cinema.

7:15 p.m. — ARGENTINE TANGO, with Ilaria Bandieri and Diego Trosman. Free concert. Born in Buenos Aires, Diego Trosman is one of his generation’s most highly regarded tango guitarists in Europe. Tuscan-born Ilaria Bandieri combines jazz, rhythm and blues, and operatic singing. Their meeting has given rise to a rare rapport between voice and guitar. Performance free for holders of a ticket to Homo Argentum, and subject to availability for those attending Playa de Lobos.

8:00 p.m. — PLAYA DE LOBOS, by Javier Veiga. Spain-Argentina, 2025, 1 hr 37 min, French-subtitled original version. Previously unreleased in France. On a beach, a waiter and a tourist who refuses to leave his deckchair. An absurd encounter that turns into a showdown, leading to a bewildering proposal. With Guillermo Francella, Dani Rovira and Antonia San Juan.

This prelude opens the 25th edition of CineHorizontes, the Marseille Spanish Film Festival, held from October 8 to 17, 2026, in twenty cinemas in Marseille and the Southern Region.
