Concert Eric Manana et Feo Gasy
An exceptional concert in Marseille to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Feo Gasy group with Erick Manana. The Malagasy polyphonic group will be in Marseille on 27 September as part of its European tour.
Nurtured by his grandfather’s guitar, the melodies of the Highlands and the “guitar ba gasy” style, Erick Manana considers himself the heir of Razilinah, who adapted the valiha (or vali) technique to the guitar in the 1940s. He modernized his style by adding new harmonic richness. His simultaneously understated and rhythmic folk style, which draws on other styles from the island (the beko of the southern coast, Betsileo music, the modal incantations of the northern jijy, and salegy), earned him the Charles Cros Academy Award in 1997 for his first album, Vakoka. He then released a tribute album to the father of guitar ba gasy, Razilinah. He has also released Bonjour Madame la guitare, Barikavily, Maty ilay masoandro and Taniko, a hymn to his homeland.
This exceptional four-hour concert with the Feo Gasy group will be an opportunity to pay tribute to the members and friends who have passed away and who shaped its history.
