“Délicieux” is David Castello-Lopes's new show. “I almost called this show ‘Pleasure’. Then I thought that the only pleasures people would think of when faced with a title like that would be pleasures forbidden to under-18s. Yet, for financial reasons, I would like under-18s to be able to attend my show too. So I called it ‘Délicieux’: it is a family show. In an hour and a quarter, I will attempt to unravel the complexity of what causes pleasure in human beings. Of course, pleasure can come from a glass of Chasselas that we sip slowly by the lakeside in spring. But it can also be caused by the death of someone we do not like. Of course, an unexpected promotion at work brings joy. But so does eating Gruyère in Gruyères, or knowing—as a French person—that the ‘z’ in Étivaz is not pronounced (which allows us to gleefully correct all the idiots who make that mistake). My aim is for this show to give you a certain amount of pleasure, in a mise en abyme as delicious as eating Gruyère in Gruyères.” David Castello-Lopes
