The seminar « Diasporic Dialogues – Where borders meet »

aims to create a space for reflection, dialogue, and the collective creation of knowledge about the consequences of the colonization of the Americas, the effects of the forced African diaspora, the resistance of Indigenous peoples and people of African descent, and the importance of preserving, promoting, and returning the tangible and intangible heritage that forms these peoples' collective memory.

This initiative is an invitation to listen, acknowledge, and rebuild collective memory, recognizing that the history of the Americas has been marked by violence, cultural erasure, and the exclusion of many narratives. By recognizing the effects of colonization while also celebrating the resistance, enduring presence, and contributions of Indigenous and African peoples to the formation of contemporary societies, the seminar aims to broaden the discussion of identity, heritage, historical reparations, social justice, and the plurality of perspectives.

Beyond simply revisiting the past, « Diasporic Dialogues – Where borders meet » aims to help build a future founded on respect for diversity, recognition of different historical paths, and the appreciation of traditional and ancestral knowledge. This event offers a space for exchange among researchers, representatives of traditional communities, artists, students, public officials, and civil society, encouraging encounters between different experiences and forms of knowledge.

The seminar also aims to inspire critical reflection on official history and the narratives constructed over the centuries, encouraging a reassessment of historiographical paradigms and the recognition of historically marginalized perspectives. By fostering intercultural dialogue, it seeks to strengthen commitment to preserving memory, democratizing cultural heritage, and promoting policies of recognition and reparation.

Through lectures, round tables, cultural presentations, and other educational activities, the event aims to establish a lasting space for dialogue, reflection, and knowledge production, reaffirming the importance of cultural diversity as a fundamental element in building more just and inclusive societies committed to memory, dignity, and the rights of peoples.
