DIALOGOS DIASPORICOS - Onde as fronteiras se cruzam!

"Diálogos Diaspóricos – Onde as Fronteiras se Cruzam" proposes a space for reflection on the consequences of the colonization of the Americas, the impact of the forced African diaspora, the resistance of Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, and the importance of preserving and restituting the tangible and intangible heritage that forms the collective memory of these peoples. The seminar “Diasporic Dialogues – Where Borders Intersect” proposes creating a space for reflection, dialogue and the collective construction of knowledge about the consequences of the colonization of the Americas, the repercussions of the forced African diaspora, the resistance of Indigenous peoples and people of African descent, as well as the importance of preserving, promoting and restituting the tangible and intangible heritage that forms the collective memory of these peoples. This initiative is intended as an invitation to listen, recognize and rebuild collective memory, taking into account the fact that the history of the Americas has been marked by processes of violence, cultural erasure and the exclusion of multiple narratives. By recognizing the effects of colonization while celebrating the resistance, continuity and contributions of Indigenous and African peoples to the formation of contemporary societies, the seminar aims to broaden the debate on identity, heritage, historical reparation, social justice and the plurality of perspectives. Beyond simply revisiting the past, “Diasporic Dialogues – Where Borders Intersect” aims to contribute to building a future based on respect for diversity, recognition of different historical paths, and the appreciation of traditional and ancestral knowledge. This event offers a space for exchange between researchers, representatives of traditional communities, artists, students, public officials and civil society, thus fostering encounters between different experiences and forms of knowledge. The seminar also aims to prompt critical reflection on official history and narratives constructed over the centuries, encouraging the revision of historiographical paradigms and the highlighting of historically marginalized perspectives. By promoting intercultural dialogue, it seeks to strengthen the commitment to preserving memory, democratizing cultural heritage, and promoting policies of recognition and reparation. Through conferences, round tables, cultural presentations and other educational activities, the event aims to consolidate a permanent space for dialogue, reflection and knowledge production, reaffirming the importance of cultural diversity as a fundamental element in building fairer, more inclusive societies committed to the memory, dignity and rights of peoples.
