A “Les Voix de la Canebière” workshop with Éleonore Bovon and Francesca Ferri, focusing on “Les Femmes de Giulianello” A joint program with the De Vives Voix Festival On September 26, 2026 – Archipel 49, 49 rue Chape, 13004 Marseille From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Passion of Giulianello (in the province of Lazio), sung by a group of women from this village at Easter, is a precious testimony to Italy’s popular oral tradition repertoire. Studied since the 1970s, it holds a special place in the transmission of this repertoire through Giovanna Marini: a musical place, thanks to the beauty of the voices and musical ornamentation, but also a political one, embodying the resistance of women refusing the invisibility imposed by the ecclesiastical hierarchy. Éléonore Bovon and Francesca Ferri are both continuing Giovanna Marini’s work in all its dimensions: transmitting the repertoire, but also committing to creation as composers. Together, they lead this workshop dedicated to learning the Passion of Giulianello, complemented by a proposal to recreate another traditional song by these women, Siamo de Giulianello, whose lyrics describe them and affirm their identity. Éléonore Bovon will perform her show Protest'Song with the “Passions” Choir the day before, Friday, September 25, as part of the De Vives Voix festival, at Archipel 49.
