Across a period

About this event

In 2025-2026, two felted-wool wall hangings were made in parallel and collectively with artist Théophile Peris, at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille with teachers Sybille Berger and Agnès Martel and their students, and at the École des Beaux-Arts de Bretagne with teachers Chloé Macary-Carney and Sylvie Ungauer and their students. This work began during a workshop on Ouessant Island, with the support of the Armorique Regional Nature Park.

The project pays tribute to livestock farming, the gestures involved in transforming fibres and this ancestral material in its sensory, cultural and territorial dimensions. Conceived as an immersive and collective work, these tapestries bring together stories, gestures and materials from multiple landscapes and working communities. The drawing sketches a symbolic map of each territory and its region, weaving a dialogue between two very different French coastal landscapes. The shape of the calanques, coastal reliefs, sea sponges and various hybrid figures engage in dialogue with chimeras and fantastical presences, such as the Tarasque, a folkloric creature associated with the banks of the Rhône. From this constellation of forms emerges a landscape that is both real and imaginary, traversed by memories, movements and metamorphoses. The felt made in Marseille combines reddish Moret wool from the Hautes-Alpes, black Ouessant sheep’s wool and alpaca, bringing fibres of different origins and textures together in a single weave. The one made in Ouessant allows viewers to appreciate the great variety of shades possible with Ouessant sheep’s wool, from a hardy breed originating on the island but now nearly extinct, processed and carded in the region by Enora of Ferme à Laine in Colpo. At the crossroads of performance, textile research and sensitive cartography, the creation of these monumental pieces is based on a deeply collective experience, testifying to a practice in which drawing, material and collective action are built together in a single movement.
