About this event
Editorial
Valencia, Spain, 2015. A new mayor is elected. The Cabanyal neighborhood, a true gem of popular modernist architecture on the seafront, is finally saved from a planned demolition. But residents are immediately faced with a new challenge: how can they preserve the identity of this working-class neighborhood and the solidarity forged in the struggle against the juggernaut of gentrification?
Screening introduced by Sam Leter, programmer at the Decolonial Film Festival and the Tsedek! film club, with director Frédérique Pressmann in attendance
Cabanyal année zéro
by Frédérique Pressmann | 2018 | France, Spain | 2h13
For 18 years, El Cabanyal, a magnificent fishing neighborhood in Valencia, Spain, resisted as best it could a wildly ambitious development project by the city government. When a new mayor willing to listen took office in May 2015, a period of hope began for residents. But how can the wounds inflicted on people’s souls as well as their homes be repaired? Following the journeys of several key figures in the neighborhood, the film offers an intimate chronicle of a small society confronting dehumanization…
