Two generations of artists come together to try to stage The Seagull. In Chekhov’s celebrated work, Treplev is preparing to present the play he has written for Nina, whom he is madly in love with, in front of his mother Arkadina, a famous actress, and her lover Trigorin, a successful author. During one evening, the audience is invited to join in the festivities and share the company’s questions about what brings them together and what separates them in this project. Indeed, staging The Seagull means entering a world in decline, in which the characters and artists swing between frustration and indignation. Each person seeks, in their own way, to give meaning to their life despite the lack of prospects. This play is a mise en abyme of theater within theater. Amid unexpected outbursts and attempts to hold on, reality and fiction intertwine. Music, ever-present, will make it possible to speak beyond words and tell of our faith in what comes next.
