Journée (Re)créer une culture du feu : l'Ecole du Feu - 16 nov. 2026, Marseille
About this event
As part of our series "Mediterranean Forest and Society – How can we (re)invent dialogue?", we invite you to join us for our first "field" day: meeting the people who made it possible to create the « l’Ecole du feu » collective. For the past year, following the fire of July 8, 2025, the Bureau des guides du GR2013 has been working with residents of L’Estaque in Marseille on a collective learning and action initiative: l’Ecole du feu. In 2026, Forêt Méditerranéenne launched a series of discussions on dialogue between forest stakeholders and stakeholders in society. This dialogue, which existed when society was still predominantly rural, has gradually faded with the growth of cities, urbanization and metropolitan expansion. Paradoxically, at the same time, people’s demand for more nature has grown, ranging from a genuine attachment to the life of natural environments to frankly consumerist attitudes. In some situations, this leads to dead ends in decisions about the management and preservation of Mediterranean forest areas, to areas being used for other purposes and, often, either to misguided choices or to inaction.
In this context of ecological and social crisis and changing relationships with nature, and in the face of various threats (climate change, biodiversity loss, fires, misuse of land…), how can forests and society coexist in balance and benefit each other? How can stakeholders (re)invent dialogue to achieve this?
This is a vast subject that we have chosen to explore through information and discussion days, either addressing broad themes or focusing on specific issues in the field.
An opening seminar brought together and synthesized disparate knowledge, presented data from different disciplines and offered new perspectives… thereby establishing a foundation for further discussion and for engaging effectively with real-world situations and issues in the field.
That is what we propose for this first field outing: meeting the people who made it possible to create the « l’Ecole du feu » collective. Through educational walks, workshops and the creation of knowledge-sharing tools, they are working to (re)create a culture of fire and an understanding of the zone of vulnerability for people represented by the urban fringe.
Organization: Forêt Méditerranéenne
