For their 43rd edition, the European Heritage Days will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, with the theme “Photography Heritage”.

˃ Self-guided visit of the exhibition “La vie climatique. Histoires sensibles des collections privées - Triennale de leurs temps #8” The European Heritage Days will be an opportunity to discover or revisit the exhibition before it closes on the evening of Sunday 20 September. The exhibition explores collecting as a genuine living ecosystem and questions the “ideal climate” of museums—that stable, controlled environment—in the face of the ecological, political and social upheavals of the contemporary world.

˃ Self-guided visit of the exhibition “AFRICA - Louisa Babari” In partnership with the Passages contemporary art centre (Troyes) Exhibition awarded the “Saison Méditerranée” label, the cultural season of the Institut français Louisa Babari takes over the [mac] museum of contemporary art with works inspired by Antiquity and Berber and Numidian cultures, created especially by the artist for the exhibition. Called AFRICA in reference to the Berber goddess and the history of the continent, the exhibition offers an immersive experience combining photographic, visual and sound art, evoking an ancient bestiary to shape a universe in dialogue with the collections of the Museums of Marseille. The exhibition will be on view until 3 January 2027.

˃ Launch of Louisa Babari’s sound piece Voix publiques In dialogue with the AFRICA exhibition, Louisa Babari invites us to explore the poetic output of the African countries of the Mediterranean, focusing on Algerian creation through the sound piece Voix Publiques. Installed in the hall and around the outside of the museum, this work reconnects with a tradition of popular dissemination, at the heart of the city and its neighbourhoods, to give voice to poetic literature. Authors and performers join their voices in a programme in which the African continent looks at and speaks about the world. Delegated production: Rhizome, Algiers (Algeria)

˃ A space for dialogue and encounters with works, artists and heritage professions, the museum reveals the diversity of contemporary heritage. A programme for all ages is offered, for an active experience of contemporary creation.

˃ Guided tour of the museum’s collections and temporary exhibitions On the occasion of the closing of the exhibition La vie climatique. Histoire sensibles des collections privées. ˃ Dance performance Laaroussa by Meryem Jazouli In her solo dance piece “L’aaroussa” (the bride, in Arabic), Moroccan choreographer Meryem Jazouli evokes, through the movement of her arms alone, the memory of a festive moment, somewhere between ceremony and improvisation. In a happy din, the a'aroussa, “the bride”, seems suspended in a space-time between prayer and surrender, ceremony and improvisation, where only her arms come into being. ˃ Artist’s Book tour The public engagement team offers a guided tour presenting artists’ books in dialogue with works from the collection. Between the museum galleries and the [mac] documentation centre, this presentation provides an opportunity for dialogue between different forms of artistic practice, from Yoko Ono to Daniel Buren.
