224e Foire aux santons et aux crèches de Marseille
The oldest santon fair, established in Marseille in 1803, brings together Provençal santon makers on the Vieux Port, along with chalets devoted to activities and treats.
About this event
A true showcase for the craftsmanship of santon makers, this event, which began shortly after the French Revolution, has inspired genuine popular enthusiasm and stood the test of time without ever losing its appeal. Marseille has become the capital of the santon and held its first fair more than two centuries ago.
As such, it is Provence's oldest santon fair, a tradition passed down from generation to generation that brings joy to young and old alike at the end of every year! Always brightly colored and representative of Provençal trades, the santons and their fair attract many visitors hoping to find a new character to add to their Christmas nativity scene.
The official opening is scheduled for Sunday 15 November at 12h. It is preceded by a mass for santon makers at 10h30 in the Church of Saint-Ferréol les Augustins.
