About this event

Editorial

Some films are born in a classroom, a community center, a care facility, a prison, a place to live, or a struggle. In no time, from writing to editing, these films made by many hands give rise to hybrid forms shaped by spontaneity. They are unlike anything we usually see, and they are the ones we want to stand up for. The Cinéma Siba collective is launching the first edition of the Les Films de barbarie festival, dedicated to workshop films and collaborative creation. Siba, in Moroccan Darija, means something that escapes control: we believe in it, for films as well as workshops. We place it at the heart of our filmmaking practice and, together with distinctive groups, make films we would never have made alone. Yet these films remain on the margins of distribution circuits, for lack of places to show them. Here is ours: around fifteen short films made in Marseille and the surrounding area, in three screenings at Le Gyptis cinema and Videodrome 2, with the people who made them in attendance. We open with « Cour sur le bitume », stories that tell of the city and all its moods. The next day, we’ll meet at Shed Publishing to talk about the practice with those who lead workshops. Concrete questions: how can we think about anti-racism and anti-ableism from the very first encounter? How can we create outside an institutional framework? What place does the author leave in a collective creation? In the evening, two screenings, two directions. « Bismillah c les ténèbres » sets off in Y: four fantastical dystopian worlds where everything goes off the rails—watch out for the special effects, handmade, local, and free of preservatives! Then « Itinéraire bis » brings us to a crossroads: wandering thoughts, an escape in the style of a western, an arrival in exile, and a final takeoff to another planet that we hope will be less khene. Thank you to the volunteers and the teams at the venues who welcome us and put their trust in us. We love you.

Itinéraire Bis – short film program

At the day hospital, people share their creative gestures through music and words. On the plains, three travelers set off to trade a diamond horseshoe for croissants. At Saint-Charles station, a young woman sets foot in France for the first time. And at Les Baumettes, astronauts prepare to leave an uninhabitable Earth. Four ways of setting off, and wondering where we want to arrive. All screenings are preceded by the film from the latest Droit au bus campaign by the Collectif des Habitant es Organisé-es du 3ème arrondissement de Marseille, which is fighting to make buses across the Aix-Marseille metropolitan area accessible to everyone.
