A confirmed compulsive liar and compulsive seducer, he leads a thousand parallel lives in which he lies as easily as he breathes. But to what end? Why does he need to invent so many identities for himself? What is he seeking? And might there be good reasons to lie? These are the questions that the film L’homme aux mille visages will prompt us to consider.

Does lying not make relationships dangerous, given the lengths the liar goes to convert reality to his desires or plans, break trust and betray others? It is certainly a means of taking power over others, a refusal to accept his own vulnerability. Who are the liars? Are they women too? Whatever our positions on gender, should life be guided by authenticity and the kind of modern love it has made possible?
