Masterclasse Printemps arabes, quinze ans après
What remains of the hopes raised by the Arab Spring, fifteen years after 2011? With Lina Attalah, Haythem Mekki
What remains of the hopes raised by the Arab Spring, fifteen years after 2011? In Tunisia and Egypt alike, societies crossed thresholds once thought impassable, challenging authoritarian rule and giving rise to new aspirations for freedom, justice and citizenship. Since then, their paths have diverged, between disillusionment, authoritarian restorations and profound reshaping of the political and media spheres.
Drawing on their experiences in Egypt and Tunisia, Lina Attalah and Haythem Mekki will look back at what these fifteen years have transformed in Arab societies, but also in the ways of narrating politics, amplifying independent voices and preserving spaces of freedom.
How can people break free today when the horizons opened in 2011 seem to have closed again? What boundaries are younger generations now seeking to cross? And what forms of mobilization, citizenship and collective engagement can still be invented?
