An hour and a half in the dark trying to understand Ricardo, the pathological lover with a thousand faces, followed by an hour of discussion to shed light on the links between lying and seduction. And all of it at the cinema.

A confirmed pathological liar and compulsive seducer, he leads a thousand parallel lives in which he lies as easily as he breathes. But to what end? Why does he need to invent so many identities? What is he seeking? And might there be good reasons to lie? These are the questions that the film The Man with a Thousand Faces prompts us to consider.

Does lying not make relationships dangerous, as the liar gives themselves the means to bend reality to their desires or plans, break trust and betray others? It is certainly a seizure of power over others, a refusal to acknowledge one’s own vulnerability. Who are the liars? Are there female liars too? Whatever the gender positions involved, should life be guided by authenticity and the kind of modern love it has made possible?
