Musées suspendus, anticipatoires et à-venir
We all know physical, real museums, but how can we tell the story of museums around the world that never come into being?
About this event
We all know physical, real museums. Others are abandoned for political or economic reasons, or made impossible when their host country is beset by conflict and destruction.
Others are in exile or virtual. The two-day symposium explores the alternative histories of these museums, seeking to make the invisible visible through case studies, including the Cloud Museum, a virtual museum founded in 2021 by Palestinian and French artists and architects to preserve Gaza’s contemporary artistic heritage, threatened with disappearance; and museums in exile, transcontinental museums often conceived as traveling exhibitions that have embodied artists’ support for peoples’ struggles for emancipation, particularly in Palestine, Nicaragua, Chile and South Africa.
In partnership with the Beaux-Arts de Marseille and the Centre Norbert Elias / Cesor.
