Nouvelles formes photographiques des École(s) du Sud

The _New Photographic Forms from École(s) du Sud_ project, initiated by ENSP and led by L’école(s) du Sud, has been awarded Bicentenary of Photography status. The [L’école(s) du Sud](https://lecolesdusud.fr/) network is presenting an exhibition devoted to new photographic forms created by emerging artists from its schools. In technological and social contexts undergoing profound change, where images occupy a predominant place, this project seeks to question how emerging artists are reinventing photographic practices today through expanded and hybrid approaches to the medium. The exhibition, curated by Fannie Escoulen, will present a selection of around twenty graduate artists (up to n+5) from the network’s eight schools. It aims to highlight the existence of a photographic scene in the South, nourished by an ecosystem of geographically close schools that are nevertheless distinct in their educational approaches and relationships to photography. From this perspective, photography will be understood in its broadest sense: experimental photography, moving and sound image, hybrid practices, installations, digital devices, generated or manipulated images, photography outside the frame or expanded photography, etc. The exhibition will take place at Friche la Belle de Mai between February and May 2027 and will be accompanied by an educational and events program (meetings, workshops, portfolio reviews, professional sessions) designed in consultation with the schools’ teams. **Fannie Escoulen: Exhibition Curator** A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles in 2000, Fannie Escoulen has spent twenty-five years building a career entirely devoted to photography. Head of Exhibitions at the Centre Méditerranéen de la Photographie in Bastia (2000-2002), she then directed the Cultural Department of the Métis agency, where she oversaw the agency’s photographers’ publishing and exhibition projects. In 2004, she joined Magnum Photos, where she worked on developing the Cultural Department (Paris office). In 2007, she co-founded LE BAL, a new venue devoted to contemporary photography, which she co-directed until 2014. From 2014 to 2021, she continued her projects as an independent exhibition curator and produced numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and internationally (Antoine d’Agata, René Burri, Anne-Marie Filaire, Jon Cazenave, Laurence Aëgerter…). She is also the artistic director of several photography prizes (Ooshot Award, Prix Levallois, Prix HSBC) and provides consulting services for companies committed to photography. In 2021, she was appointed Head of the Photography Department at the Ministry of Culture (General Directorate for Artistic Creation), where she led the strategy and development of a national photography policy until October 2024. Today, Fannie Escoulen devotes herself to exhibition-curating projects and the artistic direction of programs related to photography and the visual arts.
