« Pourquoi ai-je dû partir ? » - La culture de la mémoire, de la responsabilité collective et de l’histoire franco-allemande

The speakers will address questions of memory, responsibility and passing things on, as well as how a city and its inhabitants can confront the injustices of the past.

Historian Raluca Pora is interested in Franco-German life stories under the Nazi regime, many of which remain largely unknown. This is particularly true of the moving story of Albert Corrieri, a man from Marseille deported to Germany during the Second World War and forced to work. At 104, he is still waiting for recognition of the injustice he suffered.

In 2025, Albert Corrieri and Raluca Pora travelled together to Ludwigshafen, to the BASF site, a company descended from the former IG Farben AG. This journey led to a 15-minute documentary made in collaboration with Paris-based filmmakers Maxence Vassilyevitch and Anais Ruales.

Presented to the public for the first time at FID, the film will serve as the starting point for a discussion with Sophie Camard, mayor of Marseille’s 1st and 7th arrondissements, who is particularly committed to memory work in the city centre. Together, they will address questions of memory, responsibility and passing things on, as well as how a city and its inhabitants can confront the injustices of the past.
