MISSED APPOINTMENTS? Let us imagine an empty museum. A museum devoted to showing nothing, or more precisely to offering the gaze only the absence of objects—not their disappearance, but their absence. Let us imagine an appointment with the traces of these objects, an encounter with their memories and roots. Now let us imagine this absence elsewhere, somewhere in the world, there, within the lands and communities for which they were created, conceived and, for some, animated. What do these absences reveal about them? What do these voids say about Us? And if we gave them our attention, our listening, if we brought to light the resonances and ruptures that mark the journeys of these subject-objects, would they truly be Missed Appointments?

A NEW JOURNEY TO DISCOVER On the occasion of the loan of several subject-objects from its collections, the Musée d’Arts Africains, Océaniens, Amérindiens – MAAOA has chosen to use their invisibility within the permanent display to initiate a dialogue around the themes of absence and emptiness, themes that also inhabit the work of many artists. Through a digital journey created in partnership with the DNMADe Graphisme, Narrations Interactives of the École Supérieure de Design de Marseille, we invite you, through 12 themes (Collections, Resonance, Restitution, Future, Memory, Voices, Otherness, Dialogue, Conservation, Circulation, Creation), to question the history of the MAAOA collections and thus participate in the profound reflection the institution has begun on its future.
