This and That / Ceci et Cela - José Quintanar

Throughout August, José Quintanar will occupy Studio Fotokino for a research and creative residency centered on objects, their representation and the ways in which they can in turn represent an existence.

José Quintanar’s practice lies at the crossroads of comics, architecture and independent publishing. Based in Amsterdam, he develops work attentive to narrative structures and forms of spatial organization, which he transposes both into his publishing projects and exhibitions. Co-founder of the publishing house Ruja Press, now This was a project, but we have forgotten what it was, he conceives publications as spaces for artistic, social and collective experimentation. As an extension of this personal research, he is pursuing a PhD, defended at the Polytechnic University of Madrid a few months ago, entitled The Book as Public Space («The book as public space»).

As with his long-term project «A Dutch Landscape», devoted to landscape, drawing is approached from several perspectives: both as a representation technique and as a method of construction and deconstruction, as a space for playful investigations and a testing ground for the logic of visual composition.
