About this event

Founded by the curators of the Borély Museum in 1893, the Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology library is the oldest library among the Museums of Marseille. It holds a heritage collection of around 700 items: books, journals, posters, drawings, and registers, including the famous Description of Egypt (Panckoucke edition, 1820-1830) and the unique copy of the Golden Book of the Château de Bonneveine (1814-1856).

This heritage tour, featuring around ten precious works brought out of storage, traces the history of the library and its museum, as well as the history of archaeology and Egyptology. The finest plates are presented in an intimate setting, with opportunities to talk with the public.

• Adults and children aged 10 and up • Reservation required by email: bdubost@marseille.fr • Please arrive 5 min before the stated time at the reception/ticket desk at the Vieille Charité • Meet at the Library, 1st floor

Accessible to people with reduced mobility: The Museum of Archaeology library is not accessible to people with reduced mobility, but another space within the Vieille Charité can be chosen to provide the presentation for visitors with reduced mobility.
