Editorial

More than just a stopover city, Marseille has long been a welcoming home for peoples from the Mediterranean and beyond; everyone who arrived eventually became part of it.

Since 2020, it has been undeniably affected by a wave of gentrification. People come to work there, set up a project, or reinvent their artistic identity, without taking into account the cultural life already present, or retaining only its clichés. 13000 Film Festival seeks to do the opposite. Fiction, documentary, animation, art video: across all formats, this edition brings together a selection shaped by what it says about the young creative scene that makes up the city. Marseille is not the subject; it is the fertile ground. Two evenings, on September 18 and 19, featuring around ten films ranging from 1 to 15 minutes, connected by transmission, voice and adventure.

CERVO ROSE is a collective built by the city, active since 2020 in various forms: performance evenings, group exhibitions, events and publishing, always guided by the same idea: to create together what matters to us, and to showcase Marseille-based creative work. Through this very first edition of the 13000 Film Festival, the collective is attempting to open a window, however modest, onto what is being filmed, attempted and invented by Marseille’s creators today.

Apollo, struck by Cupid’s arrow, pursues the nymph Daphne, who, refusing his advances, transforms into a laurel tree to escape his clutches. On stage, Daphne tells us about her own transformation into a laurel tree. This time, she speaks in a story that, until now, had reduced her to silence.

“who hurt bro” follows Finn, a young man in search of adventure who discovers the ruins of a mysterious fort, populated by erratic stories and enigmatic figures. Playing the hero, he immerses himself in myths that he shares on TikTok, until he is confronted with a curious chivalrous duty that upends his everyday life.

The box office opens 30 minutes before the start of each screening.

We use a pay-what-you-can pricing system (everyone pays what they want, can afford or feel is fair). We believe in pay-what-you-can pricing as a way for everyone to experience the things that interest them and to value the work accomplished in whatever way seems appropriate to them.
