More than just a city to pass through, Marseille has long been a welcoming land for the peoples of the Mediterranean and beyond; everyone who arrived eventually became part of it.

Since 2020, it has been the victim of an undeniable wave of gentrification. People come to work there, set up projects and reinvent their artistic identities there, without taking the existing cultural life into account, or retaining only its clichés. 13000 Film Festival seeks to do the opposite. Fiction, documentary, animation, video art: this edition brings together, across all formats, a selection conceived for what it says about the young creative scene that makes up the city. Marseille is not the subject; it is the soil. Two evenings, on 18 and 19 September, featuring around ten films ranging from 1 to 15 minutes, traversed by transmission, speech and adventure.

CERVO ROSE is a collective built by the city, active since 2020 in various forms: performance evenings, group exhibitions, events and publishing, always with the same idea: to produce together what matters to us and to showcase Marseille-based creation. Through this very first edition of the 13000 Film Festival, the collective is trying to open a window, however modest, onto what is being filmed, attempted and invented by today’s Marseille creators.

Ở sân nhà (À domicile) follows Thành, manager of the Saigon Street team, and Ash, a supporter, during a training session. Through their perspectives, we explore how football crystallizes questions of identity, belonging and hope for Vietnamese youth. What does this sport represent for them? First as a subject of passion, but also as a symbol of community and memory, intimately connected to Vietnam.

Frontières

“Frontières” is a first short film that forms part of an artistic investigation exploring the links between dreams, memory and landscape. Through different media, I am interested in spaces of transition, where the boundaries between reality, imagination and beliefs become porous. My work invites viewers to move through this in-between space, where doubt and fascination coexist.

Les Nuisibles de la Civilisation

A video essay inspired by the codes of nature documentaries. It follows the daily life of a young woman of South Korean origin in the city of Marseille, confronted with racist and sexist behavior. Hyeji is both victim and filmmaker; she shows us her daily life, that of a racialized woman in Marseille, in a mocking tone.

Tonight, she is going to run away. All she has to do is go to Uma’s room, from where she can simply climb out through the window…

Poussez Poussez

Poussez Poussez examines the distance that technology introduces into everyday human interactions through the use of my apartment’s intercom. By highlighting the absurdity of seeing visitors on a screen while still having to physically go downstairs to open the door for them, the work questions the proliferation of superfluous images that structures our daily lives. Through malfunctions, bugs and minor technical failures, the installation reveals how technological language transforms our behavior, encouraging isolation and automation while quietly relegating spontaneous encounters and embodied presence to the background.

J’aimerais te dire

Made entirely within the world of the video game The Sims 4, the film unfolds as a chronicle set twenty-seven years after a solar eruption profoundly altered humanity’s ability to express emotions. People born before the event gradually forgot how to articulate their feelings, deprived of the very means to express them, while those born afterward never learned to express them. Only a tiny generation, protected in utero at the time of the solar blast, escaped this amnesia and now finds itself trapped in an inexpressive world, where what it feels persists but can be neither fully articulated nor understood by others.

Maryse

Between the solitude of a training room and the vastness of the sea, Maryse, a former bodybuilding champion, reenacts her routine. In the pursuit of a body pushed to its limits, she reveals her relationship to femininity, appearances and bodybuilding as a form of self-sculpture. This portrait examines the body as a site of discipline, transformation and resistance, shaped by effort, endurance and the refusal to disappear.
