An immersion in architecture and contemporary creation in Marseille. This guided tour invites visitors to discover a rapidly changing neighborhood through a two-part itinerary combining an urban walk with a visit to FRAC Marseille. Accessible to everyone thanks to the short distance and leisurely pace, this tour offers a new perspective on the city by bringing together history, architecture and contemporary art. Located in the heart of Marseille’s Joliette district, in a building designed by architect Kengo Kuma, Frac Sud – Cité de l’art contemporain houses more than 1,600 works by nearly 700 artists. Both an exhibition, creation and outreach venue, it presents a program of exhibitions, residencies and cultural activities that encourage encounters between contemporary art and all audiences. The first part takes place at FRAC Marseille. Guided by a museum educator, visitors discover the building’s architecture, the missions of the Regional Contemporary Art Collection and a selection of works from the collection or temporary exhibitions. The exhibition L'Écologie des relations – La Forêt amante de la mer brings together Japanese artists from different generations who explore the sensitive, emotional, ecological and memorial ties that connect us to our environments. Resonating with the themes of the Balades Nature Culture, it invites us to consider the interdependencies between human beings, landscapes and living things through works that question how we inhabit the world in the face of contemporary environmental transformations. Angela Detanico & Rafael Lain – Champ étoilé (until November 15, 2026) offers a cosmic journey in which the French-Brazilian duo reimagines how we perceive time, space and the universe. Through a distinctive visual language combining signs, writing and forms, the artists open a poetic dialogue between science, imagination and contemplation. The visit will give participants the opportunity to discover the architecture of Frac Sud, its missions, and two artistic proposals that place major contemporary questions about our relationship with nature, landscapes and the imaginaries shaping our understanding of the world into perspective. The second part takes the form of a guided walk through the neighborhood. Accompanied by a guide, participants explore its history, development and the major transformations that have shaped this area of Marseille. The route highlights its architectural heritage, recent urban developments, public spaces and the various influences that contribute to its identity today. Program: - 1:45 p.m.: public welcome at FRAC - 2:00 p.m.: cultural tour of FRAC with a cultural mediator - 3:15 p.m. – end of the tour - 3:30 p.m.: group pickup, beginning of the walk - Guided walk following the description - 4:45 / 5:00 p.m.: return to the starting point
