True to its DNA, Basilic Swing takes audiences on a journey to the roots of gypsy jazz, exploring the very essence of this style born under the influence of Django Reinhardt.
At the crossroads of cultures, gypsy jazz has drawn on the musical traditions of Eastern Europe’s itinerant peoples—Romani and klezmer influences—while incorporating the conventions of American jazz, including its swing, improvisation and sense of groove. This fusion gave rise to music that is virtuosic, warm and profoundly alive.
It is in this spirit that Basilic Swing shapes each of its projects: returning to the roots to bring different repertoires into conversation.
In its French Touch show, the group takes French chanson as its guiding thread. The great standards are reimagined with finesse through the lens of gypsy swing, in an approach that is at once respectful, inventive and decidedly contemporary.
Led by two guitars, a violin, a clarinet and a double bass, the quintet offers an elegant and accessible concert, blending virtuosity, rapport and a spirit of sharing.
